What Exactly is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Orthodontist SEO - Why SEO Is Important for Your Practice in Columbia, South Carolina

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a process in which a webpage is optimized to rank higher in search engine results for specific keywords. Higher rankings in search will increase the likelihood that a client will find your practice when they search a keyword such as “best orthodontist in Columbia South Carolina.” Ranking front page is crucial to increasing the number of patients that your practice receives. If your practice is not ranking front page, you are missing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential revenue. When you rank front page, your practice’s website will get more visitors which means that you will get more business.

What is Organic SEO?

In the world of search engine optimization, you will find organic SEO and non-organic SEO. The difference between the process of organic SEO and non-organic SEO is the means by which a website is optimized to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). Non-organic SEO is a non-natural method of optimization that improves your website’s ranking in SERPs. While non-natural methods of SEO can help improve your ranking to an extent, they can be risky. Some search engine algorithms can punish a website that uses non-natural SEO techniques as it will not view the site as credible. Most non-organic techniques are frowned upon by search engines.

Organic SEO is a natural method of optimization that naturally improves your business’ ranking in SERPs. Natural SEO is the most effective and permanent SEO strategy you can use to help improve your ranking in SERPs. Organic SEO uses quality unique content, natural links, and strategic keywords to earn a permanent number one spot in SERPs. These practices are not frowned upon and are actually encouraged by search engines as they provide the search engine users with up to date information on the subject matter. If you are going to invest in SEO I recommend perusing an organic strategy for your business.

How to Rank Front Page On Google For The Keyword “Columbia, South Carolina Orthodontist”

Earning a front page ranking on Google for a competitive keyword such as “Columbia, South Carolina Orthodontist” can be a difficult if you do not have the proper tools and practice. There is a lot of strategy and planning that go into a successful SEO plan. When designing a plan for your SEO there are three main points that must be covered. The first point is Quality. Google’s algorithms will look at the quality of a website when deciding which websites should rank higher than others. The second point that must be covered is Keyword Strategy. When improving your Google search ranking it is important to choose strategic keywords that will get the right people to your website. Should My Orthodontist Website Have a Blog?

If you are an orthodontist in Columbia, South Carolina you understand how competitive online marketing is. Front page rankings are not handed out to just any practice. There are a number of pieces that must be strategically combined on your website that will help increase your rank in Google search. One of the most, if not the most important of these pieces is a Blog. One of the most common questions I have been asked by businesses interested in search engine optimization is “does my website need to have a blog?” The answer to this question is “Absolutely.” Adding a blog to your Orthodontist website will allow you to constantly update your website. This may not mean much to you or me, but Google’s algorithm sees these updates as an indicator that your website is an authoritative source that is deserving of a higher ranking in search.

If you have any specific questions about any of these processes or are interested in having a plan set up for you feel free to contact me at jacob@otlsm.com

How Often Should I Update My Orthodontist Practice’s Blog?

Not just any blog will help a website rank higher in Google search. Google’s algorithm will be on the lookout for blogs that are consistently updated with quality content that is both informative and as accurate as possible. One of the biggest downfalls I have noticed in some of my clients’ websites is the lack of a high quality blog. Some clients have come to me with a website that has a blog with two posts that are over two years old. If you want to earn a higher ranking in Google you need to have a blog that is consistently updated with fresh, quality content. Google will rank websites higher if they see that they are contributing larger amounts of quality content.

So you need to have a steady source of quality content added to your website to earn a higher ranking in Google search. Now you may ask “How often should I update my Orthodontist Blog?” There is a happy medium that you will want to maintain when posting on your website’s blog. You will want to post a healthy amount of content but not so much that you loose the quality. If your blog is updated too frequently (multiple times a day) Google may see the site as a source of spam as opposed to a source of quality content. The happy medium for updating an Orthodontist blog is any frequency between daily and weekly.

How To Use Google Search Console To Reindex Your Orthodontist Website

The ultimate goal of search engine optimization (SEO) is to earn your Orthodontics practice a higher spot in Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs). Before any website can be ranked in search, it must be crawled and indexed by Google. When it comes to an Orthodontics practice’s website, Google is not inclined to crawl and re-index sites very often. Google Search Console’s fetch feature allows websites to be crawled and indexed on demand. This is a powerful tool that will help your practice improve your ranking in Google search and get your website more visitors. Below you will find instructions on how to correctly set up Google search console and fetch URLs on your Orthodontist website.

Set Up Google Search Console on Your Orthodontist Website

  1. The first step when setting up Google Search Console is to verify the ownership of your domain. You can do this a number of ways but the easiest in my opinion is to log in through your host.
  2. Once you have verified ownership of the domain you can begin the fetch process. On the left hand side of the screen you will click “crawl” this will open up a drop down menu. In the drop down menu click “fetch as Google” you will then be presented with this page:How To Use Google Search Console To Reindex Your Orthodontist Website
  3. Now you can begin to crawl and index pages on your website. To crawl your Orthodontist website’s homepage, you will leave the text box blank and click the red “fetch and render” button below the text box. This will request Google to render your homepage. Eventually a button reading “request indexing” will appear in the fetch list. You will click this button, then click the checkbox indicating that you are not a robot, check “crawl only this URL” then click the blue “Go” button.

You can repeat this process for any page within your website. To crawl other pages you will copy the tail of the URL you wish to have crawled and indexed, and paste it into the text box on the fetch page of the Search Console.
