As we continue to tumble into a world dictated by social media, everything we know and love will become more social as well. Some of the most popular music streaming services offer social features. Heck, even video games are a social event today. One of the next industries set to add social features is online video streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu.
Netflix currently offers no feature that allows its subscribers to follow certain users or see what they are watching; however, this feature could be coming in the near future. During conversations with some inside sources within Netflix it was said that social features are on the horizon for Netflix. Social features could include but are not limited to: seeing what your friends are watching or watched last (similar to Spotify), online watch parties with friends, and following users to get better movie and television show recommendations. I think any Netflix subscriber would agree when I say that these features would be an amazing addition to Netflix and enhance the experience.
The only negative that could arise out of a more social Netflix is privacy issues. These could be solved with privacy options that would allow users who do not want to disclose what they are watching to turn off social features. These users could continue using Netflix privately and not have to worry about other users seeing what they are watching.
How to See What Shows Your Friends Are Watching on Netflix!
As of now there is no way to see what shows and movies your friends have been watching on Netflix. The only way to do this now is to send them a text message or ask them. But how would it work if Netflix did allow you to see what your friends were watching… Similar to how Spotify shows you what music your friends are listening to.
Being able to see what your friends are watching on Netflix will work the same way that the same feature on Spotify works. First, you will need to add or follow your friends on Netflix. Once you have done this you will be presented with a small social box somewhere on the screen that displays the shows and movies that your friends have been watching on Netflix. Again this feature would have a setting that allows those who do not want to share what they are watching. What would you think about this feature?
